Best Sydney Day Trips - Blue Mountains
Beautiful UNESCO world heritage site with a picturesque national park lies 81 km west of Sydney. It is a popular day-trip destination from Sydney. Named from the blue haze blanket created by light refracted from the oil released from many eucalyptus trees. This stunning park protects 6684 acres of wilderness. Along the way, hiking through the Jamison Valley, visitors will be greeted with beautiful sculptures and Aboriginal rock paintings.
The Blue Mountains is one of the weekend destinations for many locals. This 1.5-2 hour’s drive away destination from Sydney is popular for nature lovers, hikers, bikers. Most people choose to drive to the mountain however there is an alternate way to go to this place via train enjoying the scenery. The train journey starts at Sydney Central station and ends at Katoomba station, home to the world heritage listed Three Sisters rock formation with the entire journey taking around Two hours passing through some of the major railway stations through the western Sydney corridor.
Wentworth Falls – Blue Mountains
It takes approximately 1.5 hours to get to Wentworth Falls from Sydney. It is recommended to start early to avoid the crowd.
Getting to the base of the falls is an easy walk and you don’t have to be an expert hiker for this trail. Take enough breaks along the way and be sure to capture stills of the majestic Jamison Valley. Once you reach the car park at Wentworth Falls follow the signs for the walking track. From the car park, the first walking trail to Rocket point lookout is about an hour trail track although it depends on how fast you are climbing the stairs. We highly recommended wearing comfortable hiking shoes and carry enough drinking water.

Leura Cascades is a lovely picnic spot with a very popular picturesque waterfall.

The Three Sisters is really a mysterious place to visit. This iconic landmark is about 10 minutes drive from the Leura Cascades Picnic area.
Locals have an interesting story to tell about the Three Sisters Rock formation. There were three beautiful sisters named Meehni, Wimblah, and Gunnedoo who were part of the Katoomba tribe who lived in the Jamison Valley. One day their loving father had to go for battle and he was worried about their safety as no one was there to look after them. Before going to battle he turned them into stone for protection to protect from any harm.
Unfortunately, he was killed during the battle so he was unable to turn them back to flesh as he planned to after the battle was over. The sisters are still beautiful in their rock formation and remain there as a reminder of the battle and a father’s love for his daughters. You can experience this incredible formation from a number of different vantage points to truly engage yourself in the natural gorgeousness of the Jamison Valley.
Scenic World – Blue Mountains
Another top attraction at the blue mountain is the scenic world. Enjoy the ride on the world’s steepest incline railway, experience spectacular views of the valley from the glass-floored Skyway suspended 270 metres in the air, incline into the ancient Jamison Valley by Cableway, discover the exotic boardwalk in Australias Jurassic rainforest walkway.
